Since its inception, the Department of Economics has been setting high benchmarks for itself as well as for others. The main motto of the department is to train its students in a manner so that they not only excel academically but also attain skills and attributes that would allow them to thrive in life and be beneficial both for the society and the country at large. We are proud that the Department of Economics cater to students with diverse thoughts, skills, innovative ideas and knowledge. The Department acts as a facilitator by providing a broad range of opportunities, the students thereby enrich their learning and hone their skills. A number of activities conducted by the department enable students to unleash their potential. The department has to its credit National Level Programmes and Seminars comprising Synergy, Annual Symposia and the publication of the Department Magazine ‘Arthika’ and the department journal ‘Illuminatus’. The department has also organised exchange programs with St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and St. Joseph’s College, Darjeeling to name a few. This provides an opportunity for our students to get a glimpse of the academic and cultural orientation of the host institution and the city. Apart from these programs, the department conducts Group Discussions, Quiz, Annual Economics Lecture series, Dr. Sapna Newar Memorial Lecture, Movie Screenings, Alumni Interactive sessions field visits and short-term courses (bridge course and add on courses) for the overall development of the students. The alumni of the department are also doing well academically and professionally and have got through institutions of repute like Harvard University, University of Cambridge, Delhi School of Economics, TISS, TERI, LSE, MSE, GIPE, SAU, XIC, IIM Kozhikode & IIM Shillong, FMS, New Delhi and many other institutions for pursuing their masters in the subject on a regular basis. The department is striving hard to produce and mould such talent, which will contribute to the growth of the country’s economy in whatever capacity they can.

Ms. Poorvi Medatwal joined the Department of Economics as Assistant professor, St. Xavier’s College Jaipur in the year 2016. Currently, she’s serving as the Head of the Department. After completing her graduation in B.Sc. in Economics, Statistics and Computer Applications from International College for Girls (ICG), Jaipur, she did her Master’s in Economics with specialization in Environmental Economics from the Central University of Rajasthan. She also did a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Economics and Policy from IIPH Delhi. Thereafter, she completed her M.Phil. programme in Economics from the University of Rajasthan. Currently, she’s pursuing her PhD on the topic ‘Economic Growth and Environmental Sustainability: Evidence from Indian States’ from the University of Rajasthan. She has seven years of teaching and research experience. She has also cleared UGC- NET exam in Economics. Her areas of interest include Environmental Economics, Microeconomics, Health Economics and Statistics. She is the member of Rajasthan Economic Association and has attended and presented papers at several seminars, conferences, and workshops. She has also contributed a chapter in a book and has published research papers in reputed journals.
Mr Yashwardhan Singh is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at St. Xavier's College Jaipur. He is also the Coordinator of IQAC for ensuring and enhancing academia quality. He had served as the Head of the Department from 2016 to 2019 at St. Xavier's College Jaipur. He has more than 11 years of teaching and research experience. He is a University Gold Medalist in MA Economics from the University of Rajasthan. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD on ‘Determinants of Farmers’ Income in Rajasthan: An Inter-Regional Analysis’. His teaching interests include Macroeconomics, Indian Economy, Mathematical Economics, and Econometrics. His primary research areas focus on Agriculture and Development. He has completed a UGC-sponsored project on the Employability of Higher Education Graduates in India, where he served as the Co-Principal Investigator with NIEPA, New Delhi. Additionally, he has completed two research projects, namely 'Assessment of Farmers' Income in Rajasthan' and 'Performance Evaluation of Urban Local Bodies in Rajasthan', as the Co-Principal Investigator with Niti Aayog Chair, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Since 2017-18, he has been a Member of the Editorial Board of the Rajasthan Economic Journal of the Rajasthan Economic Association, Jaipur. Starting from January 2022, he has been a co-editor of the Economic Bulletin, a quarterly publication of Niti Aayog Chair, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Furthermore, he also contributed to writing the Sixth State Finance Commission Report for the Government of Rajasthan. He has published 12 research papers in reputed edited books and journals. From 2016 to 2019, he served as the Secretary of the Rajasthan Economic Association and subsequently held the position of Vice President from 2019 to 2021. He is a life member of both the Indian Economic Association and The Indian Econometric Society.
Ms Sunita Choudhary is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at St. Xavier’s College Jaipur. Previously, she was a visiting faculty member at Manipal University Jaipur. She has completed her BA Economics Hons. With Public Administration from St. Xavier’s College Jaipur, and subsequently earned her Master's in Economics from the Department of Economics, University of Rajasthan.
Currently, she is pursuing her PhD on “Consumers’ Perception Towards Adoption of Solar Photovoltaic Technology in Domestic Sector” from Manipal University Jaipur. She has five years of teaching and research experience. Her published works have appeared in academic journals such as the International Journal of Innovative Technology and Exploring Engineering (IJITEE), The Empirical Economics Letters, and the Indian Economic Journal. Her teaching area focuses on Microeconomics, Public Finance, Indian Economy, and History of Economic Thought. Her primary area of research is in the fields of Energy Economics and Environmental Economics. She has been granted the Dr. Ramdas Pai Scholarship from Manipal University Jaipur. She has also cleared the UGC-NET in Economics. She is a lifetime Member of the Indian Economic Association.
Ms Aneesha Jain joined the Department of Economics as Assistant professor, St. Xavier’s College Jaipur in the year 2022. After completing her B.A.(Honors) in Economics with Mathematics from IIS (Deemed to be University), Jaipur, she went onto pursue Master’s Degree in Economics and specialised in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics. She is Gold Medallist in her post-graduation. Currently, she’s pursuing her PhD from IIS(Deemed to be University), Jaipur. She has also cleared UGC NET exam in Economics. Her areas of interest include Mathematical Economics, International Economics, Quantitative methods for Economics and Development Economics.
