Commencing the academic year with a spirit of inclusivity and enlightenment, the Department of Economics at the St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur organized an orientation for the first year students of the UG and PG on August 16th, 2023, in the Room No. 207. The central focus of the orientation was to acquaint the students with the department and provide a thorough understanding of the academic programs, National Education Policy, faculty members and available resources. The event was attended by 22 students from both UG and PG.
The program began with the introduction and insights about the department by the faculty members, which included brief sessions on academic structure, NEP policy, Academic Bank of Credit, semester and credit systems, examination pattern, and the description of Add-on courses offered, by the department. The sessions aimed to provide students with a clear understanding of their new curriculum and what to expect during their academic journey.
The students were further acquainted with the Economic Society, Ecosoc Alumni Society, department magazine and journal, and various departmental activities such as Synergy, Dr. Sapna Newar Memorial Lecture, Economic Lecture Series, Alumni Interactive Sessions, Industrial Visit, Donation Drive, etc. The significance of the economic honors program and its potential for shaping the student’s career were highlighted along with a video presentation of the departmental activities.
To encourage social interactions, ice-breaking activities and team-building sessions were organized. These activities helped students connect with their peers, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among the incoming batch. The senior students also prepared postcards as souvenirs for their juniors.
The Orientation Program successfully achieved its objectives of introducing incoming students to the department. It provided essential information, fostered a sense of belonging, and motivated students to embark on their academic journey with enthusiasm. The program set a positive tone for the students’ university experience and helped them understand the resources and support available to them throughout their undergraduate journey.
