At St. Xavier’s College Jaipur, every student is expected to uphold the values of Competence, Character, and Compassion. This Code of Conduct establishes standards of responsible, respectful, ethical and disciplined behaviour expected of every Xavierite.

1. Purpose and Scope

The Code of Conduct establishes standards of responsible, respectful, ethical and disciplined behaviour for students and members of the campus community. It is intended to promote a safe, inclusive, academically supportive and dignified environment in which teaching, learning, research and institutional activities can be carried out effectively.

The Code applies to conduct on the College campus, during academic and co-curricular activities, educational/industrial visits, institutional events, and in digital or social-media spaces where conduct relates to the College or its community.

2. General Principles

• Maintain dignity, discipline, mutual respect and professional behaviour.
• Respect the rights, privacy, dignity and personal boundaries of others.
• Follow College rules, notices, policies and lawful instructions issued by authorised authorities.
• Protect the reputation, resources and property of the College.
• Act honestly and responsibly in academic, administrative, social and digital activities.
• Promote inclusiveness and refrain from discriminatory, threatening, humiliating or abusive conduct.
• Any sort of violence, threat or misconduct with staff or fellow students will be treated as a serious offence.
• Follow all the guidelines, rules, instructions framed by the Central/State Governments, Commissionerate, College Education, University and College Administration.
• Any violation of the code of conduct will lead to suitable disciplinary action by the College Administration.

3. Academic Conduct

• Students shall attend classes, examinations, practicals, presentations and other academic activities regularly and punctually.
• Students shall maintain academic integrity and shall not engage in cheating, fabrication, impersonation or any other form of academic misconduct.
• Assignments, projects, reports and other academic work shall be submitted within the prescribed timelines and shall reflect the student’s own work, except where collaboration is specifically permitted.
• Students shall follow examination rules and instructions issued by the College and the examining authority concerned.
• Disruptive behaviour in classrooms, laboratories, libraries or other academic spaces shall not be permitted.

4. Behaviour on Campus

• Students are expected to maintain decorum in classrooms, corridors, offices, libraries, laboratories, cafeterias, auditorium and other College facilities.
• Threatening, intimidating, abusive, violent or deliberately disruptive behaviour is prohibited.
• Unauthorised possession or use of weapons or dangerous articles on campus is prohibited.
• Damage, defacement, misuse or unauthorised removal of college property may attract disciplinary action.
• Students shall carry and produce their College identity card whenever required by authorised College personnel.
• Instructions concerning safety, security, transport, events and emergency procedures shall be followed.

5. Anti-Ragging

• Ragging, in any form, is strictly prohibited within the College premises and in all activities associated with the College.
• Students shall not engage in, encourage, facilitate, support, or tolerate any act of ragging or conduct that causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological harm, humiliation, intimidation, harassment, or distress to another student.
• Harassment, ill-treatment of junior students, intimidation, or any form of ragging shall be treated as a serious violation of the College Code of Conduct.
• Complaints relating to ragging shall be dealt with through the College’s prescribed Anti-Ragging mechanism and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and directives, including the guidelines issued pursuant to the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. Such acts may also attract criminal and other legal consequences.

Mandatory Anti-Ragging Undertaking

• In accordance with the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC), every student is required to submit the Anti-Ragging Undertaking online. Submission of the undertaking is mandatory for all students.

6. Respect and Inclusion

• Every member of the College community shall be treated with dignity and respect.
• Harassment, bullying, intimidation, stalking, threatening communication or humiliating conduct is prohibited.
• Sexual harassment and other forms of misconduct shall be dealt with under the applicable institutional mechanism and rules.
• Students shall not make offensive or derogatory comments concerning another person or group.
• Any form of abuse, harassment or torture – verbal, physical or online – will invite the strictest disciplinary action, including possible debarment from the College.

7. Social Media and Digital Conduct

• Students should use social-media platforms responsibly and shall not misuse the name, logo, identity, photographs or other institutional material of the College.
• Posting or circulating content that is threatening, defamatory, obscene, fraudulent, harassing or intended to harm another person or the reputation of the College may attract disciplinary action.
• Recording, photographing or sharing classroom, examination, meeting or institutional proceedings without appropriate permission is prohibited where such recording or sharing is restricted.
• Students should respect privacy, confidentiality, copyright, intellectual property and applicable cyber laws.
• False information presented as an official College communication shall not be circulated.
• Misuse of social media platforms for ragging or harassment will not be tolerated. Offenders will be directly dealt with by the Government Cyber Crime Cell, in addition to internal disciplinary measures.

8. Substance Abuse and Prohibited Activities

• Possession, use, distribution or sale of prohibited intoxicating substances on college premises or during college activities is not permitted.
• Students shall comply with applicable laws and College rules concerning smoking, tobacco products and other restricted substances.
• Participation in unlawful activities connected with the College or its programmes may result in disciplinary action.
• Organising or participating in any unauthorised celebrations, events, or gatherings.
• Engaging in or promoting political activities of any nature on the College campus.
• Conducting or participating in unauthorised meetings, campaigns, propaganda, processions, demonstrations, or similar activities.
• Collecting funds, donations, or contributions without prior authorisation, particularly for personal benefit or purposes not approved by the College.
• Undertaking any activity that may disrupt academic activities, compromise campus discipline, or adversely affect the safety, dignity, and well-being of the College community.

9. Events, Visits and Off-Campus Activities

• Students participating in seminars, conferences, competitions, industrial visits, educational tours, internships, sports and other institutional activities shall maintain discipline and follow the instructions of faculty/staff coordinators.
• The same standards of respectful and responsible conduct apply during college-sponsored activities outside the campus.
• Students shall comply with safety, transport, accommodation and venue-specific rules communicated for such activities.

10. Conduct Outside the College Campus

• Students must maintain the standards of conduct, discipline, and decorum of the College at all times, both on and off campus.
• Students are personally responsible for their actions, behaviour, and consequences arising from activities conducted outside the College campus.
• The College shall not ordinarily be responsible or liable for incidents, acts, disputes, or consequences arising from a student’s personal activities outside the campus, particularly where such activities are not College-sponsored, authorised, or related to College activities.
• Students shall not engage in any off-campus conduct that may adversely affect the safety, dignity, reputation, discipline, or proper functioning of the College or its community.

11. Use of College Resources

• College computers, networks, laboratories, library resources, classrooms, furniture and other facilities shall be used responsibly and only for authorised purposes.
• Unauthorised access, alteration, destruction, copying or misuse of institutional data, systems or resources is prohibited.
• Students shall report loss, damage, security concerns or misuse of College resources to the appropriate authority.

12. Grievance Reporting and Confidentiality

Students who experience or witness misconduct are encouraged to report the matter through the appropriate College authority, committee or grievance mechanism. Complaints should provide relevant facts and supporting information where available. The College shall handle complaints in accordance with applicable institutional procedures and rules, subject to confidentiality requirements.

13. Disciplinary Action/Measures

Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations of the College and in accordance with due institutional procedure. Depending on the nature and severity of the misconduct, disciplinary action may include:

• Counselling or corrective guidance.
• Issuance of a formal warning.
• Submission of a written apology/undertaking by the student.
• Withdrawal or restriction of specified privileges.
• Restitution or compensation for any damage or loss caused.
• Suspension from specified academic, extracurricular, or campus activities.
• Suspension from the College for a specified period, where applicable.
• Expulsion from the College.
• Rustication, in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.

Referral of Serious or Repeated Violations

• Serious or repeated violations of the Code of Conduct may be referred to the competent disciplinary authority for appropriate action.
• Where required or applicable, matters may be reported or referred to the appropriate external authorities in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
• Such referrals shall be made in accordance with the prescribed institutional procedures and principles of due process.

14. Student Responsibility

• Read and understand the Code of Conduct and related College policies.
• Comply with directions issued by authorised College authorities.
• Encourage peers to maintain discipline and respect institutional norms.
• Report serious misconduct or safety concerns through appropriate channels.
• Cooperate with disciplinary or fact-finding processes when required.

15. Institutional Review

The College may review and update this Code of Conduct periodically to reflect changes in institutional requirements, applicable regulations and good governance practices. The latest approved version published on the official College website shall be treated as the operative version.
