On September 6th, 2023, the Department of Economics at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, organized the first online lecture of its Economic Lecture series on the topic ‘Introduction to Financial Economics’. The speaker of the day, Ms. Phiza Moulavi, Assistant Professor, Shankarrao Chavan Law College, Pune, and visiting faculty, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune, provided a foundational overview of the key concepts and principles that underlie the field of financial economics. The lecture was aimed at familiarizing the students with the various aspects of financial economics and its importance in understanding financial markets, financial literacy, and decision-making. The speaker covered topics such as the time value of money, risk and return, financial markets, financial instruments, equity, etc. There were about forty-seven participants, comprising students and faculty of the department. The in-depth explanation evoked questions in the minds of the students, which were addressed by the speaker. The lecture proved to be informative and successfully delivered concepts, setting the stage for further exploration of this vital field.
